SCNAT Report on Critical Raw Materials
Researchers from the Energy Commission of the SCNAT – Swiss Academy of Sciences recommend that Switzerland should actively address the supply of critical raw materials in a new report.
The global push for renewable energy has sharply increased the demand for raw materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which are essential for solar panels, batteries, and other electronics. This surge presents significant challenges, particularly for countries dependent on imports for these critical materials.
The Energy Commission of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences recommends that Switzerland takes proactive steps to secure its supply of these materials. The report suggests that technological innovations, such as developing alternative materials and improving recycling methods, can reduce dependency on scarce resources.
